Some days, what you really need is to sit down with a friend over a cup of coffee and just talk. The day your doctor diagnoses you with Parkinson’s Disease is one of those days. In fact, the first six months after you’ve been diagnosed are among the most difficult.
The Arizona Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association has launched a new program to help people with Parkinson’s through those first difficult months. “Coffee Every Friday” invites those who have been diagnosed five years or less to stop by on any Friday morning at the Raging Sage Coffee Shop on 2458 N. Campbell and just sit down for a chat. Past president Sharon Kha will be there to talk over the issues that are especially problematic for people who have PD.
“When I was diagnosed, I cried for weeks, “Sharon said. “My father had Parkinson’s and I thought I knew exactly what lay ahead for me. I was wrong—my experience is totally different, but it would have been helpful to talk to someone else who had been through it before. “Coffee Every Friday” intends to provide that kind of friendly, supportive help in an informal setting.
People with Parkinsons, especially those who have been diagnosed in the last 5 years, are welcome to drop by the Raging Sage between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and just talk about whatever is on their mind. |
